GSTIN validator
A GST number carries its own state, its owner’s PAN and a checksum. All of that can be read without asking anybody — instantly, and for nothing.
How a GSTIN is put together
| Characters | What they are |
|---|---|
| 1–2 | State or union territory code |
| 3–12 | The registrant’s PAN, embedded verbatim |
| 13 | Which registration this is for that PAN, within that state |
| 14 | Registration type — Z for a regular taxpayer, other letters for TDS and TCS |
| 15 | Checksum over the first fourteen |
